Find the perp(s), exact your revenge, even if it means losing everything else of value in your life; your family, your possessions, your mental sanity. And remember, “revenge is a dish best served cold”.

Security system. Most cases like this happen when the owner is not home. If you are home - what are you going to do with a gun ? It would come down to hoping you frighten them off. If you’re struggling with anxiety after a break-in, how do you think you will feel if you kill someone? Or worse, said scum is also armed and you get into a shooting match? Firearms inevitably lead to escalation.
Keep your biggest valuables (watches/jewels) in a safe with time delay. Have an alarm system with panic buttons. Tracker system on the cars so even if stolen they can be tracked live and intercepted.
This response is on point.
Sorry to hear this. Buying a gun helps a lot of people feel more secure and gives them peace of mind

Sorry to hear. I’ve had this happen to me. Time heals all and it will take time to feel secure again. In the meantime, try to talk to someone you trust about it and know that your feelings are valid.
+1. I woke up one morning 15yrs ago to find that someone had come into my 1st floor 1bd apartment through an unlocked window. Stole a laptop that was on the desk next to my bed. (Other apartments also broken into.) I was super shook. Time does heal, but you don’t forget.
At first I felt really mad that I didn’t wake up to scare them off or grab one of the weapons I had available. Then a lawyer I worked with pointed out a) i would have been disoriented and they might have been armed too, putting me at a major disadvantage and b) if I had woken up and injured/killed them, I could have introduced civil liability if I couldn’t prove trying and failing to escape the situation. I’ve come to feel very grateful that I slept through it and no violence happened that night. Honestly, it was the 2nd best outcome in that situation.
Also - guns are useless. Just what’s to put it out there. Anyone here who has actually killed someone? Well - you might just end up doing that if you had a gun. And will you be able to sleep with it. Won’t you get sleepless nights thinking maybe that guy was here just because he hadn’t eaten in a week and didn’t deserve to die. Worse- what if you lose control and the other one gets the gun. Unless you are an expert and are ok with the consequences of using it, don’t get a gun. I have a baseball bat.

A single blow to the head is all it takes to cause permanent or lethal brain damage — even with a fist. In many jurisdictions, baseball bats are considered deadly weapons and treated as such in court. The specifics will depend on your state, but it’s generally true.
I’ve got a decade of martial arts experience which includes eskrima stick fighting. I’m not saying your bat is ineffective. It just may be more than you’re planning on.

Sorry to hear about your situation. Definitely recommend getting a Ring and using it to report those mf who break in.
Dog. Comforting to you and a huge deterrent to someone breaking in.

Absolutely go for a solid security system. If you have the mind and **responsibility** for it, a solid firearm can help if there’s a risk to your personal safety.
Just get a security system. There are some pretty good ones out there. And don’t go for ADT. They charge an arm and a leg. I got a security system with the house. Added 10 or so sensors over the years. And I sleep very well. There have been some false alarms where we forgot to secure a window in a stormy night as well. And one where someone broke in and then left immediately as they heard the alarm. If someone hears an alarm, they leave immediately. The stuff that it will take police 3 min to get here only happens in movies.
Also get a security cam. And put a sign outside that video surveillance in progress. I had a guy who went in the entire neighborhood car to car one night to see what’s there in open cars. I called the cops next day and gave his video to them.

Happened to my house and my grand parents were harmed during the robbery as well. Time heals but the memories remain…
Don’t buy a unless you’re willing to use it. Family members coming home late are a favorite target.
Buy nest cams or similar. We have 4 now. Also if they broke in then get a better lock on the door which often means a better frame which is usually the weak point. You can also get vertical bolts etc too.
And it takes weeks but it does get better. And if you happen to move house it basically disappears from mind.
Only get a dog if you otherwise want a dog. It’s a 15year commitment not a safety blanket. And don’t get a gun. Unless you live in a country that is very unsafe (like your embassy has safety warnings), but if you lived there you’d already have a gun and training to use it.
I have two ridgebacks. We sleep well at night
LOL those dogs seem chill until they bite someone.
Guns aren't the right answer, might only make situation worse..
I went through this about 9 years ago, I was out of country and for years (even now at times) it is a lot of anxiety when I hear noises at night and such. I have since moved to a different town due to work so it gets better..
Get a security system definitely, I have ring camers installed all around. If you don't mind get a large dog, they are sensitive to noise and tend to usually scare away anyone wanting to break in.
Don't underestimate the anxiety it causes.
