The only real lawyers are ones practicing Admiralty law under the UCC as a freeman of the land and sea, unburdened by the corrupting grasp of evil state bar associations, the coast guard, the Third Amendment, and notaries

I think we’re just enjoying actually having a life instead of leaving a prestigious biglaw M&A job for basically being a glorified outside-counsel-manager running diligence.

all outside counsel are Partner or Harvey wrappers

no they let Harvey or some other AI Agent handle m/a, capital markets or investments rather than an overpaid lowly associate

One of my friends has been given a choice, to work with an extremely outrageous target or to leave the firm. If he chooses to stay, he will be bound to serve a total time of 6 months. And if he refuses, tomorrow will be his last day, what can I suggest to him?

It's a critical decision and he is overwhelmed by this sudden obstacle. Any leads would be helpful.

Most positions I’m applying to require desired salary in the application, and the truth is I’d accept anything north of 125k but don’t want to undersell myself and take a bigger cut than necessary coming from biglaw.

Have interviews set up at FAANG co and getting good signals, for a position that was posted widely (all across US) but not remote. Haven’t broached the subject of location yet. Would you (1) early on clearly state that you’re not open to relocation but that you would be open to visiting a big office once or twice a month; (2) not say anything now and wait to get an offer and ask for an exemption; or (3) something else?

Considering taking a position with a small-cap in the US trying to build their legal department. The title is standard “counsel” although the work would be with the senior leadership team and reporting to the GC in Europe. How reasonable is it to ask for a bump in title - Senior counsel or Head of Legal, US? If it matters, I am a 6th year and have been told that I will be expected to hire a junior or paralegal as we build up.

How far do you require depts be with negotiating commercial contract terms before your legal review? I’m talking routine low value and risk contracts (e.g., vendor services), where Legal terms won’t kill the deal. My clients blindly forward contracts.
