I had an interview w/ the Hiring Manager at Boston Consulting Group for a position and it went so well that the HM said on the spot I was going to be moving onto the next round. Its been weeks since that interview & I've had to follow up w/ the recruiter 3x asking for an update. I mentioned interviewing elsewhere but prioritizing BCG. He finally responded to that saying he was going to debrief with the HM and get back to me but nothing... what gives?

I’ve noticed the same shift. A lot of companies moved away from commission because hourly pay is easier to control and forecast. There are still some commission heavy roles out there, but they tend to be in higher ticket sales like furniture, jewelry, or certain electronics. Most general retail seems to be leaning toward hourly plus small incentives now.
I think many big-box chains moved to hourly pay for predictability, but luxury and specialty stores still rely on commission to drive performance. What kind of retail job are you looking for?

Agreed. This is definitely a strategy to encourage employees to reach sales goals
