Are these answering services (LEX Reception, Alert, etc.) a better investment for a solo attorney than hiring a part-time receptionist/legal assistant? I’m trying to get the most “bang for the buck.”

I used to work at Alert prior to passing the bar - I would say it’s cheaper than a receptionist depending on the package you choose, however it takes away the feel of a real person because it’ll always been a different person when your clients call. It gives the illusion of high turnover or they figure out it’s a call center and get frustrated.

Hmmm I guess that would be a way to cut costs as it generally is cheaper but I would think a receptionist would almost be better. They are more personal and work speciically for you so I would think they would do a better job than some of those answering services.

Is it the smart move to take a pay cut and clerk for a judge?

Little context: I was an ED student, full time paralegal/clerk throughout my law school experience, and a single mother. I did not take advantage of the law school extracurriculars and missed out on clerk application deadlines my final year (2020). Would it benefit me to take a pay cut as a transactional clerk by about $20k to work as a clerk for a year then re-enter firm life? I’m transactional and enjoy that line of work.
