Every art director I’ve ever worked with has been totally fine with highlighted Google Doc updates. I think this is maybe an issue for your AD, not ADs in general. Ask them.
Google doc = God.
Depends on how big the project is. If I’m working on a large multi-page brochure don’t make me search my document for where some google doc small edit is.
I (art) would much rather work from a google doc.
i don’t prefer that. I’d rather use google docs

It makes double work for the writer. We have to update the manuscript in the google doc, highlight the changes so we remember what to check in the next round, then add those corrections using post-its on a pdf. Genuinely asking, why does it "take forever to cut copy edits from a Google doc."
Though I prefer to copy/paste from a Doc... A lot of times the copywriter takes too long to update the doc so it's faster to make the changes directly from the marked up PDF with the change request.
You probably are running that by your partner first to make sure they’re good with the changes, I think. But if you’re not then you should talk with them first because they may not agree with/want to implement all the changes.

Thanks guys. I have had four ADs flip out about it. They wait til the fifth round to say they'd "prefer" a marked up PDF.
Okay, point taken. You work with weird art directors. Sorry. Maybe you can glean some more info if you ask them why they prefer it.
