Thoughts on “special” salary grades. I just found out the VP I was offered is not a grade 12 like most comparable roles (verified). Also not an 11, but an 11A. Slightly higher than an 11, a good bit lower than a 12. All due to the fact that it’s a leap from my current position. Why should that matter…..shouldn’t it pay what it should pay if I am selected, rather that curving down towards my current rate?

After 6 years of temporary contracts and unstable situations, I find my dream job in my dream company. All of a sudden the world goes upside down and I get laid off. I start sending hundreds of applications, with only 2 recruiters getting back to me to say I don’t have experience for the job (this is how it works in Italy). Y’all I am struggling on these “light” home improvement projects we decided to take on with a recent house purchase. Plan was just to replace carpets, paint some walls, and replace kitchen appliances. Now added on new faucets, other bathroom hardware / mirrors / toilets / medicine cabinets / exhaust fans, baseboard recaulking and cleanup, kitchen sliding door, ceiling fan rewiring and install, window replacements… how do I rein it in??
