For context, I’m in my entry-level job search era. But the more I try and get into this industry, the more I feel like I’m making a huge mistake…
For entry level, I don’t think this is rare. Companies/ teams are essentially losing money to train jr level execs in hopes they’ll be able to contribute in a year.
Executive salaries don’t dwindle. Let’s look at the real issue. The same thing that’s happening in our country at a national level is also happening in agencies and leadership cries broke.
It’s disgusting.
We were paying entry level strategists $45k more than ten years ago
That’s what I made as an entry level strategist at PHD Chicago in 2016
I was an assistant at Phd and made $35k in 2012. I had to commute from out of state. It’s entry level to get your foot in the door and train and learn. This is almost similar to college . The connections and experience can make more money. What’s different for you though is that they have to pay you overtime :) : when I did this it was $35k and I worked 10 to 12 hours in some days: but some days I worked 4 hours: the Jewish holidays were always short weeks. The time off was generous. What are you upset about? Work more hours and get paid more . This is a great opportunity for you
Hey! So the cumulate inflation rate between 2012 and now is 28.5%. From what you’re saying, the salary at PHD was the same over a decade ago. That’s not okay. You’re telling me that, following 4 years of college and pursuing a specialized field, I should be making the NYC minimum wage ($16/hr)?, which is barely livable in most places? Also, working 10-12 hour days every day to make a living wage shouldn’t be normalized. I understand that this industry takes a lot of work, and I’m willing to push myself, but entry-level people deserve a little more respect than this.
34K is definitely not a livable wage in NYC in this day and age. That is wild
