I have a great job offer of 160k at a great firm with 10% bonus. My current firm pays 118k with no bonus. I had a passing conversation about how we are losing people and I’m like well it’s the market. Then he made comment yea but there’s nothing we can do. It’s just coming out of partners pockets. I was feeling kinda bad for planning to quit, but after that comment, maybe I shouldn’t feel bad? The partners do what’s best for their pay then so should I? I am just feeling really worried about it!

Could anyone help me understand which one is better to join in terms of hikes, technology used and work life balance. I have to join on Tuesday, 16 Aug.

Anyone ever successfully negotiate their partner cash distributions? I’m a very new partner, yet running and growing a book far greater than average size for the firm. Am I stuck in the basic new partner comp structure for~ 5 years or is it reasonable to expect I’ll get compensated for my contributions today? I’m tired of chasing carrots; what’s a reasonable/ “fair” % of my book to expect allocated to me each year? Is 20% asking too much? I’m tax at a top 6 firm.

Hypothetical...

Imagine a potential client takes a new job in a new firm in a new city. Through no fault of his own, he suffers a few health and personal setbacks, which the firm is aware of. In the midst of it all, the firm unilateterally and substantially changes the terms of his employment (with significant implications to his compensation, obviously to the firm's benefit) and then starts to put the pieces in motion to fire him for cause.

Would like additional thoughts. 27M soon to be 28. Moved to Chicago from LA ~3 yrs ago. Debating if it’s worth exploring NYC/BOS or if I should go back west. Reasons for wanting to leave Chi due to culture fit. I find it hard to relate to ppl here of all ethnicities. More so, I find it interesting that I’ve been “discriminated” against by Asian Ams out here bc of my tattoos and “Cali Asians are trashy and ghetto”. I don’t think NYC/BOS will have the same issues but wanted more opinions. Thanks!

Hello friends, looking at a JP opportunity and hopefully going into the offer process after today’s interview. What I need help is understanding the comp structure in non front office roles ? In Goldman we have PATC ( per annum total comp ) which is nothing but base + “promised” bonus % + RSU.. how do you have total comp defined in JP ? the bonus also a % of base and almost agreed upon ? Example my bases is 200k and bonus is 25 % etc ?
