One in Rome, one near Florence, and both say they’ve had no issues getting food/supplies (although both going nuts already due to their kids’ school closures!). What do my fellow stateside fishes think?
Depends on your city probably... I was in Whole Foods in lower Manhattan a week ago doing my normal shopping and the canned goods, pasta, rice shelves were empty...
Duane reade is out of paper towels and disinfectants.
Party of 1 but something has to stop the spread and not sure how that happens when nothing changes (a few days of a quarantine might not be a bad idea to contain it a bit).
Stock up on the stuff you always eat... you’ll use it eventually!
I’ve stocked up. I don’t think they’ll be a food shortage but I want to be prepared in case it gets worse and I decide I don’t want to go to the store for a week or two (I’m in NY). I’ve just been focusing on buying things that I know I’ll use eventually anyway.
The point is options to give yourself. If you don’t want to go out, will you be ok???
I have lived through hurricanes (from the gulf coast) and thankfully am not worried about water this time around (and also huge bonus I can rely on frozen food too!), but know what can happen when your supply chain is tapped. It’s not pretty, and it’s not fun. My coworkers and husband think i am crazy for stocking up on food for us and even for my dog, but worst case scenario if this all blows over by april, we will have two weeks’ worth of groceries we won’t have to buy.
I am also factoring in the fact we would probably be quarantined and need to add in additional meals for lunch which we usually eat out, unless we want to keep it at one meal a day.
Full fridges, full pantry stuff for kids when schools close. Drugs in case one is sick and hospital care Is unavailable or more dangerous. Alleive is actually a studied light anti-viral, Advil’s great. Tylenol and Asprin May be less good choices with something like Covid. Tylenol eats up your glutathione supplies. (Required for lung function.) Asprin use made outcomes in Spanish Flu worse. (I avoid because I am allergic, but I can’t claim I have read anything else on it.)
I am also a touch morbid. Start with the nutritional things to could reduce risk of ards being an outcome, if you get sick. C and Zinc a must, decent data. Add Vitamin D and bone broth / chicken noodle soups (rich In glycine) glycine is needed too work with your C and D to keep lungs strong and immune system fighting. Quercetin/ bromelain and B5, if you have allergies that combo will be no surprise.
Last do what you must to get more good sleep. The negative health outcomes in pandemics of health works, always connected to sleep and lack there of.
Stay strong glad to know so many have gotten ready, it’s not panic just prepared not “prepping.”
We always keep a weeks worth of food on hand...but that’s because we lived through a big blackout, the hurricane where we didn’t have power for a week and my husband’s
apartment burnt down. So we’re used to prepping for disasters.
I’m glad supermarkets are rationing though. Some people are buying so much sanitizer it’s as if they want to bathe in it!
That’s exactly it. We would survive, we might get kind of bored but we’d be ok.
I stocked up on non-perishables + wine and beer. There isn’t really a downside, since I focused on non-perishables. It just gives me flexibility to not need to go out and also not have to worry about outages.
Don’t forget to get a truck load of toilet rolls 😷
Yeah what’s the deal with the tp hoarding?! I mean you can easily clean your bottom with soap and water, bidet style. I’d much sooner hoard coffee and chocolate 😂
Yeah good point. I’m not in NYC. But I’m from NY, mom still in Queens, and she hasn’t had issues. It may be a Manhattan issue?
Anyway yeah- was thinking of getting pasta, the gigantic cans of Marzano tomatoes Costco has- my kids will always eat that stuff. Seltzer. The essentials :)
