Been apart of my current company for 11 months now. However the actual work is a far cry from the exciting job I was sold in my interview.
From very poor training/shadowing to tasks so tedious that I may aswell be called a labourer rather than a mechanical fitter.
The company itself is apart of a very niche industry (military, radar systems). The reflection of what we actually do compared to the product we manufacture is shocking. Unorganised and make it up as we go along attitude. What to do?

Before switching or leaving, make an attempt to analyze and better understand operational decisions or processes. Give the company an opportunity to demonstrate their willingness to receive suggestions for improvement, thus evaluating the organizational culture. If it doesn’t work out and you’re still unhappy, at least you know you tried and that itself goes a long way.

I am almost in the same boat, the actual work is boring and nothing like the job description and what was said in the interview.

Also Military interestingly. Getting my qualification then will assess from there.

I would recommend trying to see why it went wrong and give advice to the company, that is what I have tried. Though falling on deaf ears.

Someone on LinkedIn expressed disappointment about the lack of diversity from the big law firms in TX that were posting pics of their summer associates. A managing partner commented that he thought the post might be about a pic he posted (12/14 SAs were white). He tried to defend this by saying that they had LGBT and socioeconomic diversity. The fact that he recognized that his pic might be part of the problem says it all. Law firms need to do better. Sorry, I just wanted to rant.

Let’s talk office set ups. I am looking at a Uplift standing desk as my big splurge because I have back issues, and the room I work in has horrible lighting so I’m considering some sort of selfie light ring type thing that I can clip to my monitor. Anyone have feedback on either the desk or a light they like, or any other ergo friendly home office hacks you’ve found helpful?

Last week I had to explain to my child what “politics” (as in office politics) is. My child is going to a new high school and wants to play volleyball. There was a 3 day open “tryout” for incoming freshman for 2 teams. After the first day, she noticed that
1) there were obvious favorites (coaches are not even hiding that fact);
2) some can’t even play and got on the team,
3) some that can obviously play but did not get on the team;
4) decision were obviously made before the first day was over.

Deloitte has removed the vaccine requirement to enter the office, but there are still many Deloitte employees who are unvaccinated. Is anyone concerned that we have let these people win? Does anyone feel like we are caving in to the people who refused to comply? Doesn’t this send the wrong message? If they know they can just wait it out, won’t they be incentivized to do that again when the next pandemic comes?

Good morning! I work in Medicare sales and I’m just getting tired of sales because I have to change these elderly people on their insurance very frequently, and it’s frustrating most of the time. I eventually want to be a Christian counselor and I just stared school but that’ll take awhile to get where I want to be. I just want to be happy right now without taking a major pay cut leaving sales. I’m making 80k now, I don’t need to keep making that but a decent amount while still helping people. 🙏
