Best resources for a new PI attorney fresh out of law school? Something that can help me understand the process of a claim from inception to settlement or trial?

Each state has a "Trial Lawyers Handbook". This is a good reference.

Also "Anatomy of Trial: A handbook for young lawyers" is a great starting point. You can check the ABA website for that one.

The Colorado Trial Lawyers Association publishes the “Auto Litigator’s Handbook” for use here in Colorado. It is a fantastic resource and required reading at my firm for PI attorneys. If your state has an equivalent group, join up and see if they publish something similar.

Depends on the state. If you’re looking for law in NY I suggest doing a quick google search of threshold. The NYS Bar Association has a PDF with case law that explains it well, so you know what you’re talking about.

If it’s NY feel free to reply and I could go into further detail

Find a job where a partner oversees you. Work on cases with their oversight. Learning by experience is key. If you’re fresh out of law school employers have a good understanding of your knowledge and don’t expect you to know everything right away.

I received a job offer from a PI firm (MVA and tractor trailer cases) in Houston, Texas; the bonus proposed was 2.5% of attorney’s fees for any cases settled each quarter. We are assigned 50 cases a quarter and the top attorney clears $25K each quarter. This is my first time working at a PI firm. Can anyone share any guidance? Is 2.5% industry standard? Is it realistic to settle/resolve that many cases? I am trying to learn more about this niche before I counter-offer and attempt to negotiate.
