Can someone please help me. I've been looking everywhere for a job. Yes I know it's slow season in the restaurants rn. But literally every place I do follow up interviews with all tell me there fully staffed but I'm at the top of the pile. Can someone please give me pointers on how to get a job I've never had this much problems

So they invite you to interview but then tell you they're actually not hiring? That's super weird. I've had the best luck by just talking to people in person so I tend to go in and sit at the bar and talk to whoever is working rather than scanning online for restaurant jobs

The food service industry is really struggling now - I think it’s just generally hard to find a job because restaurants aren’t doing as well as they used to. Be creative - maybe try different cuisines? Or maybe be willing to do 2 different places with only a few days each just so you can keep working?

I'm trying everywhere. I liked working 2 jobs. I did it for awhile. I love all food so I'm not picky on cuisine or casual vs for me dining. I do draw the line at McDonald's. I know it's slow season. And once all the kids go back to school something will open but in the meantime I'm struggling bad

Your not the only one, I was 9mons with out landing something until I decided to apply outside of the restaurant industry. I suggest trying in senior living settings, it’s more secure work and if you get in a good place, you may have room for growth. The restaurant industry is very unstable right now and if you’re not working for a big franchise with strong capital behind them, you maybe out of a job again. Good luck!

Thank you very much. I've been trying hotels. I have a strong background in microbiology but Im in a small town and really do like serving. I missed out on a really nice restaurant by 10 mins today. He hired the person before me who had experience. He said to give him a week to try her out but it sounds like he may give me a shot it's just discouraging. Im going to keep going to every restaurant in the area. And keep calling back someone is bound to get something

I've been exploring exit opportunities for a few months and still holding out for the right opportunity. However, I've had A LOT of recruiters reach out to me for positions that are way below my current salary. They do the whole "your background and expertise is exactly what we're looking for" then turn around and offer a salary range that is 20k below my current level. My resume clearly says I've got 10yrs experience and an MBA. I **don't think* I should be getting offers of 80k-100k

Does anyone else struggle with being a freelancer while also being a natural leader? I always feel in freelance roles that they would prefer I just shut up (even though my ideas have been praised and implemented plenty), esp within my own dept. Check the overtime laws for your state!!

I just recently worked 58.6 hours in a week, weekly pay, nice OT profit right? Depends on where you live.

In Iowa, there is no Overtime pay mandate, the overtime pay is at the discretion of the business. I received 58.6 hours of base pay for the week.

If the company makes less than $1 million per year or does not engage in intercontinental sales, the company is not required to pay the overtime rate of time and a half, just your base rate.

So I work as an assistant manager at a restaurant for the past 9 months. I've worked in restaurants for the past 6 years science I was 16. Now I'm 22. I went to a trade school for media and film. I got a dream opportunity to work in the field making about the same or 10% more. I told myself the only reason I'd leave this company is for this type of job. Should I take the chance at this job and leave the restaurant that is on the rise and growing?
