Why do they not mean anything? Should the only merit be conceptual awards that award scam ads?
Maybe if more creatives embrace web work, the digital space, and NFTs they can remain relevant and have less of a chance of getting aged out of advertising.
I don’t care if people outside our industry care. OUR industry cares and awards help your career. It’s impossible to deny.
Yeah. I don’t measure my career by how many pencils or WEBBYs I’ve won. I have a couple of both. But I also don’t measure it by how many explainer videos I’ve made or organic social posts. A career isn’t measured by any single metric.

I actually think the Webbys is the only one that matters besides Cannes and D&AD.

Now that Cannes has 17000 categories, I’ve stopped caring about lions. D&ad still has clout imo.
D&AD > Cannes > One Show > ADC > ANDYs > WEBBYs > CLIOs > all those other ones. Or something to that effect.
D&AD is by far the most important. There’s another show that appreciates craft. ADC is all about craft without too many unnecessary categories. And really hard to win. It deserves to be up there.
They’re all dumb made up awards who cares let people enjoy their recognition

Does this mean you weren't nominated for the Webby or Shorty you felt you deserved? Sure, all awards are a bit silly when you look at them a certain way. I don't think you'd be so bitter about them if you truly didn't care about them, though. 😉

It's like ranking jerk circles and while the award shows are laughing to the bank.
I just won a Sharty.
I love that the knee-jerk reaction to a post of this nature is “you must be jealous cause you were/were not nominated and didn’t win.” OR “all industry awards are inside baseball circle jerks.” I’ve both won and lost these awards. And do not care about either. I do care about other award shows within our industry. And, guess what? Every industry has their own awards that people outside of that industry don’t care about. But within, it matters. And awards in advertising matter. Just not the webbys or the shortys. Any award show that relies on an all-agency email blast imploring their employees to vote for whatever shit project that agency worked on is an absolute joke.
