I feel like it's the same in every industry and office - you suss everyone out and find your people. Go with your gut - I've made some of my closest friends at work.
Some of my closest friends are former coworkers with whom we became friends at work and remained friends outside work, including two bosses!! Good people!
Yep. I have met my best friend working in this industry. But I am a hell of a catch: smart, funny and easy on the eyes.
There's some good ones out there. Kinda got my last job due to connections and staying in touch with old colleagues.
Definitely so but I mostly try to stay away from letting loose with co-workers. Kinda just want to play it safe.
Most of my closest friends are co-workers from previous jobs. Of course, because its advertising, so are my biggest enemies.
Not in NYC..
I disagree @ACD2. I don't think it's reasonable to judge the validity of your friendships based on whether or not you get laid off. Not to sound too much like My Little Pony here, but friendship isn't a game. There are political games. And you do have to play them. But that's another thing entirely. Politics and friends aren't mutually exclusive.
I married a coworker. And yes, we're still friends 😊
Ha! Advertising is where I finally found my people. Find the creatives. You'll fare well
It's possible! My first senior now lives with me and we're best friends!!
I certainly hope so. I spend so much time at work, that I don't really have an opportunity to make friends in any other place. I think the biggest impediment to real friendships in the creative department is high turnover - and people being scattered between so many high pressure assignments, rather than everyone constantly shanking one another.
Yes and no.
I let my guard down and got let go. Stupid games we have to play. Just an fyi: if you feel safe, you're done.
Two of my best friends i met through this industry
Hell yeah! It's hard not too. We generally work with pretty cool smart people. What better place to make friends.
Definitely. I've made a couple of "forever friends" (really, people I know I'll be friends with till death do us part) at every agency I've worked at so far.
Agree w/ ACD2. I let my guard down too early and got off to a bad start thinking I could trust people. Luckily it all turned out ok, but I think you never really know who you can trust.

I found my people in advertising. Life long friends and even a bestie.
