Could you imagine having an economy that didn't pander to rich folks and could be affordable for the rest of us without working to death? Sounds like some socialist dream
I always felt well paid as a teacher, having benefits and lots of time off. I think complaining is a perpetual state of the progressives that have taken over the teaching profession. Embracing misery and perceived unfairness, and preaching the same victimhood to students.
CHS, I agree with you. I knew going into the profession that I would not make a lot of money. Therefore, we have always made choices that have allowed us to live comfortably within our means. We have lived in a modest house, we chose a modest community, and we have always driven used cars until they are about to die. We have purchased generic versions of almost everything possible (except Heinz ketchup!), and I always chose to work a summer job that I enjoyed for a little extra cash. Nothing Earth-shattering here, but to me it's all about the choices we make. If you can't afford to live where you work, then move to a community you can afford.
I think it's very rare and that's why you need to keep moving and adapting to get what they offer to the best out there. A buddy of mine finally jumped to a company that adjusted salaries quarterly for inflation, and he said it felt like breathing for the first time in years. It’s out there, we've got to find it. Keep looking for it.
If you had a job that kept up with inflation, that would be one of the causes of inflation. I mean, isn't that the definition of it? Anyway, we're living in a society that is becoming increasingly anti-education, so it's not too likely that compensation will be increasing.
I can't. I'm so used to budgeting every last dollar and taking on side gigs to make ends meet that the idea of NOT being stressed about money is wholly foreign to me. It sure sounds nice, though.
I doubt I'll ever have a salary that would keep up with inflation... or the cost of living for that matter. But it's a nice dream.
