Companies don’t, that’s true.
But reputational karma exists, and “companies” don’t hire people, hiring managers do.
As you progress through your career, you’ll be surprised how small the world is and how often your reputation, for good or bad, precedes you.
Never burn a bridge.

The is is why I’m always really nice to our HR team
Just give your two weeks notice with the assumption that it’s your last day. If they keep you on board, do the bare minimum, or even less.
I concur!! Unless you know that you are looked upon as a "star" on the floor or within a sales team, make sure you are dotting your eyes and crossing your 'tees', Always have the company's handbook handing and in hard copy. That way should there be any modifications, you can make sure of what was, vs. what isn't. It's a valuable lesson learned, and if you happen to be working in a unionized shop, that's better yet. There you definitely want that handbook hard copied, and by doing so, your steward will want you to have it too. Should your soon to be ex employer try to get out of paying you unemployment, you having all and any notes or disciplinary documents handy. With a union, they will back you and have the union lawyer available too. That's the best part of belonging to the union.
I agree companies at large don't care, but I still think 4 weeks should be standard. At an individual team level, it's extremely hard to work around a two week notice period. Your team (hopefully) didn't do anything wrong, don't leave them out in the cold like that. After all, they're your future network.

The only time I had this happen is when I’d just started a new job and then received a better offer. I was still in training and couldn’t really do anything on my own so it was a waste of their time and mine. But just a heads up, unemployment considers this behavior a layoff. I was able to reopen my claim and receive benefits until the second job started.
its called quiet quitting for a reason. stop working and collect the paycheck as long as you can. companies cant badmouth you cause it opens up liability for lawsuits. you are expendable and so are they
Isn't this stupid for a company to do?
Option A: Let them leave and eat the cost of 4% (two weeks) of their salary.
Option B: Fire the person and save that 4%, but expose yourself to a potential wrongful termination lawsuit.
IANAL, but isn't that risky? I get dismissing people and paying out the rest, but withholding pay is just asking for trouble.
Yeah I her that just a number
The bootlicking you all do 😂😂
