Oh, you could write books about office politics. In fact, some people have. On the most basic level, it just comes down to just getting along with people. But office politics, in some environments, can make the works of Machiavelli look simple. There are people who thrive on gossip and intrigue and complicated feats of backstabbing. My strategy is to try to avoid that stuff as much as possible.
You have to play office politic if you want to move up quickly. It’s just IB, it’s corporate America.
I think that a lot of it has to do with networking with the right people at the right time, subtly sucking up and bribing people in discreet ways. Like taking someone out for a round of golf or drinks or having another shared hobby where you can build extra time together/opportunities to become a favorite.. all of these things seem like office politics to me. I am horrible at sucking up but I'm working on it because it seems absolutely necessary to get loyalty from people
When you sleep with your manager for a promotion…worked for me you’re lookin at the newest AVP
Hahahaha you got to do what you gots to do
The best way I can describe it here is there is this inner clique with my boss above me and several other employees. If you are not in that that little clique then you can forget your chances of being promoted or getting a good raise. And everyone in that little clique just idolizes my boss. Its really sickening honestly.
Politics are everywhere.
How you get into university…how you get into a frat…how you are chosen for student body leadership roles…social club admittance in NYC…work cliques…philanthropic board seats…
It’s ever present and will NEVER stop.
Acting like you're happy to your manager's face and telling them everything is great during feedback sessions and then telling their peers and manager that they are mistreating you and creating horrible work environment.
