Yes, write a cover letter.
Use chatGPT or Gemini. “Given this resume and this job description, write a cover letter that highlights the strengths of the candidate.”
I’d tweak a few things to personalize it and bring in your “voice”. But it shouldn’t take that long.
I cover some novel concepts with how cover letters apply to todays job hunting market here. Feel free to jump to that section and take a look: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1haLATL2nNR5JSA0iDnBdZhpcxPd8oXx7yJDN3oixA8k/edit?usp=drivesdk

ONLY do a cover letter if it’s required. I’ve been to a few events where hiring managers and recruiters talked about how they never read them and one guy was even like please don’t include one because then I feel like I have to read it and I don’t want to.

I should say the one exception they had was if you were like super super passionate about that role or had something particular to say. The whole gpt generated cover letter is great for getting past the requirement when it’s there but otherwise even that is a waste of effort if it’s not required and you don’t have some personal drive to gush to them about something particular.

Cover letter is an additional thing. Recruiters do not spend more than few seconds going through your resume, let alone scanning the cover letter.
They don't have time for this. IMO.
