I landed here from a journalism background. At first it felt like a compromise, but now I see it’s where real influence lives. For me the dream job would be head of comms at a company doing work I respect, where spin isn’t required. What drew you to this field in the first place?
So many former journalists end up here it seems.
I actually started as a marketer that had an interest in social and ended up at a PR firm because... that is who would hire me. And I've come to really enjoy it.
My ultimate goal is to go in-house at a company like Amex or Headspace, but don’t necessarily have a dream job. I actually always wanted to go into this field - I was very lucky my high school counselor suggested it based on what I loved (writing, planning, storytelling) but thought I’d end up in a more marketing copywriting role than purely PR!
I'm also someone that thought they'd go more the marketing route. But I've always considered myself a storyteller so I'm glad this is where I ended up.
I was a journalist for over a decade. The writing was on the wall about the industry’s struggles. I went to PR for the money.
