Tucson is beautiful and as a Phoenician I love to visit but it’s limited as far as job opportunity so I’d keep that in mind.
Thank you! You’re right - I would plan to work remotely. 👍🏻
I grew up in the Midwest and have lived in AZ for 7 years.
Some things to consider:
- It’s hot AF in the summer. Coming here from London would be a major change between the dryness and the heat.
- The border crisis is a big factor right now. All border states have seen a huge influx of migrants. I don’t want to get political, but it’s bad.
- Compared to the Midwest: minimal bugs, great roads, minimal extreme weather, but higher COL
- Options to explore, adventure etc are endless. If you like outdoor sports, this is your place! Top tier hiking, biking, fishing, etc. and massive acreage of public lands.
Lmk what else you want know!
I don’t live in Tucson which is obviously way closer to the southern US border than Phoenix is, but I don’t hear about the migrant “crisis” at all nor does it affect my life whatsoever. Would be curious to hear how the previous commenter feels.
Tucson is the Gary, IN or Columbus, OH of the southwest — just go to Phoenix proper. It’s at least a T2 city.
Coming from Chicago - it feels a little run down, like a suburb city that hasn’t had much by way of proper investment in the 50years
And few engines for strong growth. Proximity to Mexico is also no joke - you might have seen the news while in the UK, but the border has gotten exponentially worse. The amount of migrants who crossed the border last month was roughly the same as the population of Pittsburg.
I live in Mesa, AZ and recommend the Phoenix and Scottsdale area a lot more than Tucson
How come?
