Currently hybrid 3 days in nyc, making 280k, great brand on resume and pretty much can't be fired. Been hunting for fun.
3 options.
1, stay where I am
2, fully remote at 200k, job lateral but step down w firm prestige and job security
3, relo to SF at 400k, fully onsite, career step up (like boss's boss's job) at a smaller firm where I could have big impact

No kids, no debt, gf but not married

What would y'all do?

Personally, the 3rd option sounds most enticing to me. You are currently in a win-win-win situation, but you are at time in your life with fewer obligations so you can afford to take more risk, hence relocation and having the ability to impact an organization at a greater capacity. Although, it's worth noting that SF is actually 10% more expensive than Manhattan according to 2023 data....which for me would be a speeding ticket compared to the nicer weather!

San Francisco is going to be cheaper. The main difference is the fact that you won’t be out socializing as much. You’ll hang out with folks at their apartments so the opportunity to spend 100 bucks on a round of drinks is lower. You’ll find yourself falling asleep earlier too. Lots of pros and cons, but now is the time to move if you’re looking for more money.

I would pick the #3.

First off, I really wanted a fully remote work but despite of #3 being on-site, the salary has increased significantly.

Second, it's a smaller firm where you are able to make a big impact. Anything's possible. In the future, #3 might really work out well thus more salary/maybe a chance for remote work.

Third, if by any chance, something happens that does not suit you well, then you still have gained a high-level experience that will benefit you looking for another job.

If you are comfortable and happy where you are, I would use option three to ask for a raise at your current job. Even if it won’t get you to 400k it could be a nice bump without moving coast to coast and set you up for another role later that aligns better with what you are looking for.

Why are you entertaining other roles?

I would never live in San Francisco. Couldn’t pay me enough. But our sensitivities may be vastly different.

$280k In nyc tho. That’s pathetic. Enjoy that sweaty ride to work. Not sure why these comments lack cost of living into their “lump sums”.

I have 1.5 year experience in web designing like HTML/CSS, Bootstrap, Tailwind css, Addintional i am erxpert figma convert into web interfaces

As someone who’s only been out of college for a year, how do people even make this much 😂. That’s amazing though. I would recommend #2, you can go and experience more and test it and if you don’t like it can always go back to being hybrid.

I’d pick 3. You got nothing to lose and a lot to gain. Embrace the suck if you will for the better gains and a wholesome experience and money.

In 2021 I went from on-site - big tech - big salary to small company - smaller salary - fully remote.
I could travel a lot and I moved to Europe (you can live really well here with this salary).
It can be a good life if you are a explorer.

There is not enough money in the world for me to willfully live in San Francisco.

Hi! It doesn't matter what we'd do. I think this all depends on how you are feeling about your current situation.

Are you comfortable and enjoying where you are, do you feel like you'd want to prioritise other things in your life more, or do you feel like you're in that spot where you want to "stretch/grow" yourself again. Which company speaks to you the most, regardless of prestige (unless that's something you highly value)? Depending on that, choose one of those options. I think it's obvious which answer is which option haha.

Sounds like you're in a solid spot, but wishing you success with whatever you're choosing!

#1 sounds pretty nice :) the job security bit of it especially. The other two are rolls of the dice so I would ask your motivation. If it’s just the money then chase it but it sounds like you’ve got a good thing going on already.

I think the biggest thing to consider about #3 that I didn't see much in the comments was your desire and ability (true self-assessment) to manage a team. Also - having worked for both large organizations and start-ups, I think its important to take a hard look at the firms backing that company, their short and long-term strategies, current and prospective customers..reoccurring/predictable revenue, and is it truly an environment for success??

And the gf? 😂

I'm 47 with 4 teens starting college or about to. After spending my life running my dad's glazing company and loosing it to the Covid scam I would tell u unequivocally option 3!!!!

You making 280 TC or base? Just curious for career growth.

Relo to SF

Disponible?

Follow the money🤑

Did you decide?
