+30k increase in salary. If you’re making under 95k as a PE your company doesn’t appreciate you.
It’s crazy how some PEs are making 80-100k, meanwhile many fresh grad software engineers can be making 100-200k right away.
I get it’s completely different industries, but it’s hard to swallow given the liability civil engineers face.
It was a 30% increase in pay. Got bumped one title.
Yeah it’s crazy how you can work 20 years to get to a salary level, and now new grads are demanding essentially the same salary because inflation and cost of living have skyrocketed recently. Used to be a new grad would make 40k and then after PE they’d make 60 to 70. Now a new grad needs to make 80 just to make ends meet.
So currently if you’re making 90k pre PE, I’d ask for 120k post PE. If they don’t want to pay you that, someone else probably will.
my firm gives a 3.5k bonus for passing the exam, 7k bonus for getting PE license, and then they have a higher pay tier for PEs (I'm still an EIT so no idea what that looks like)
