Things are expensive in singapore please do research first before accepting offer.
The demand here is in digital (AI, data science, cloud infra, SRE) and financial services, especially fintech. You can do a quick search on Google for specifics.
Taxes are among the lowest here.
Daily expenses can be controlled if you spend on the right options:
- public transport is S$2 max per train ride, bus ride
- taxi is S$15 on average per journey
- rental of a 2Br apartment expect to pay between S$2500 to $5000. Rental market is very hot right now so pick the location judiciously. If daily commute is 1 hour it is acceptable by my standards
- food, you have a wide range of options. Restaurants are generally expensive (s$80 to $150). But you can still have a decent meal at our low cost hawker centres at less than $10/meal. Majority of the locals eat there.
- Alcohol is crazy expensive, special occasions only
- cars are a luxury here
Just 2c about the rental situation; it is heating up for a few reasons 1) construction of new housing is only just picking up post pandemic, so home owners are starting to rent as an interim solution. 2) foreign talent who left during the pandemic are coming back, competing for supply of existing homes. 3) exodus of talent from Hong Kong and China to Singapore.
Got a feeling the rental market will soften in 1-2 years as the government has taken actions to intervene.
