Dentsu leadership announced: “in real life” initiative (“different from return to office”) requiring commutable employees to go into the office 3 days a week. For remote employees, they’re exploring additional hub offices. People in the chat shared concerns on flexibility and remote vs hybrid salaries. They just hosted an Ask Me Anything where they used AI to come up their questions, and shared the typical Pro-Hybrid C-Suite jargon. People in the chat brought up concerns of being passed up for promotions as dentsu prioritizes hybrid employees, and why they’re using AI for questions when they could just ask real employees, but I don’t think they answered that.
Agreed. It’s a backwards way of pushing remote workers out.
This sounds like Japan leadership pushing this onto US. Bc in Japan there is no such thing as remote or hybrid and it still a bureaucracy aka old men still in power bur completely out of touch with reality and current times. Just like a ton of Japanese companies.
I hope all the US agencies get sold by Dentsu Japan quickly bc it’s evident the acquisitions has been a failure for the US agencies.
I think it’s a bit too easy to scapegoat Japan leadership as a reason for all this. Not that there isn’t cultural differences to account for, but for the most part dentsu international is pretty independent of dentsu Japan.
Why would this be a uniquely Japanese thing when Dentsu is the only network not to mandate RTO? This is the industry standard now globally, and this is just playing catchup.
And 3 days a week beats WPP’s 4, and Publicis’ mandatory Monday with no consecutive days WFH.
