This has always confused me. I’m three years out of undergrad and a manager. I’ve considered going back and doing an MBA but is there much point if I’m already past senior con? I get it can accelerate your career, but by how much?
C1 this is true, but I feel you can make that move without spending $100k+ and 2 years of lost income on an MBA. Sure you might need to do abit of networking but at the end of the day these firms hire alot more experienced hires than they do MBA graduates.
Typically mbas start 2 levels above entry level. I’m confident about this but not sure of the big 3 companies like McKinsey, Bain, bcg.
For most strategy house you will be at consultant level oost mba (bcg/bain-consultant, mck-associate). For big4 strategy arm (S&, EYP) most of my classmates ended up as senior associate. As far as I know other practices at big4 didn't hire as much. Some exception exist though (pwc ops, workforce advisory, etc).
If you feel that you're high enough in the ladder probably you are, suggest you reach to alumni/current student who has similar background. But I know plenty who are manager at big4 (tas team, tax, etc) who ended up at post mba level at MBB/other strat consulting. Maybe the pay is still higher I don't know
At PwC, you have to attend a certain caliber of MBA program (~ top 20).
There is likely 0 overlap between programs that would accept someone immediately after undergrad and those that would get you placed on the MBA cohort for pay.
In general, if you already have broken into the business space (like consulting), a 1 year MBA is useless. Come to the firm, progress, decide if you want a 2 year MBA from a top program but you likely won’t need that, either
If you’re joining PwC as your tag indicates, feel free to DM me and I can explain how the MBA cohort works, acceptable programs, and potential sponsorship
OW starts MBA’s at the Associate level, so two levels above entry
This is a hard question to answer. Companies hire you for your aptitude and MBA isn't all there is. This also depends on the institute where you get an MBA from. Plus, some companies value MBAs and some really don't as long as they think the person is right for the job.
