Bain & Company I received an offer to join Bain & Company for SF office but due to family reasons, I will have to stay in the South Bay. Given Bain’s local staffing model, it will be challenging for me to commute to SF and back. Is it possible to be transferred to the palo alto office/is that office fully functioning or does it mainly serve as a hub for partners and research?

No.
I applied to MBB.
McKinsey recruiters literally said they dont read cover letters, and they dont.
For my Bain app, I dont think it matters.
For BCG, I accidentally used my Bain letter instead and didnt even get an invite for interview, and from the comments from other BCGers, it sounds like they do read them 😵
The partner in my Bain interview pulled out my cover letter and asked me multiple questions based off it FWIW
Yeah what kinds of things did you write about?
They can’t help but they can hurt. I’ve seen a few that had the wrong role or company name. Not a dealbreaker assuming everything else checks out but makes the reviewing team think that person doesn’t care or worse is careless. Could be the difference between getting and interview or not, if it’s a close decision otherwise.
Recruiting director here… yes.
What do you look for in a cover letter?
I wrote about why I wanted to work at Deloitte in mine
YES. A ton.
Don’t think so
Yes
McK no, Bain depends on the people reviewing your application and interviewing… they share it with everyone involved in the recruiting process; my understanding about BCG is that they do matter as well.
McKinsey is the only one where I think they said fully optional when I applied - and it definitely went fine
Not at McK
Nope
No. Keep them very short.
What should we be covering in them?
