Bought a watch 15 years ago (as a consulting manager) for $10K and it is worth $30K now. Wear it only for special occasions. Garmin is the day to day.
what watch
Have a Rolex GMT and GS Spring Drive. Planning to add a Lange 1 this year. But my daily wear around colleagues and clients is one of two Hamilton field watches.
I don’t view them as investments. A watch is the only piece of jewelry I wear and I’ve always liked them to be interesting. Brings a little joy every time I look at them. Other than the Rolex, no one cares what you wear, but you’ll occasionally run into another enthusiast and it’s always been an interesting conversation when each piece has a story.
Thoughts on Lange 1. I am looking at 1815 instead?
Nope, I spend it on the kids, holidays… lots of cheaper watches that please me though…
I have a few - AP, VC, JLC, Rolex, Omega that I have picked up over the years
I have 1, 4, 5 and about to buy an overseas then a master calendar ... what models do you have?
I splurged and bought my wife and myself an Apple Watch a few years ago and have no desire for anything else.
I have two Cartiers and a Garmin. I wear the Garmin the most.
Looking to buy a Rolex but it is pretty damn hard to do.
Breitling with royal insignia
I do not. The most expensive watch I have ever owned was 1200 USD, and I have not worn it in a decade or more.
I just bought 2 more last week, it was supposed to be one but I got access to something I had been waiting for a while but still didn't want to say no to the other one lol. More than 120k in watches by now
I'm a watch nerd, I have a decent variety :) I don't follow the hype though, 'only' one Rolex and it's not your typical one anyway
I have two watches that are 10+k, two for ~500, one 5k
What I would like to know is the capital appreciation. Is there an asset class strategy for watches?
Not really comparable to say real estate as an asset that appreciates massively over time. Best case some will hold value - but massive appreciation is rare
Consider it a hobby and only spend money you don't need to see again in your account - it's not a fiscally responsible choice to consider it as an investment instrument

I have a Cartier, Rolex, and JLC. All are lower end models. The JLC was the most expensive at about $10k. I don’t need any more. I wear my apple watch 90% of the time and haven’t worn the Cartier in a long time. It’s a small face and I plan to give it to my daughter.
1 Rolex Submariner for special occasions , 1 Tag & Apple Watch for more daily wear
I like the bauhaus look and thinking of buying a Nomos. Any watch people here have an opinion on whether nomos is well-regarded?
It is well-regarded among watch people, yes

Chopard happy. $10K. So not a killer splurge, but I love it. And I’ll never love again 😍
Nope. Have. Garmin watch as my daily driver. Under $1k.
I have several nice watches but nothing in the Rolex/ Cartier category. An Omega, Sinn, and Oris as well as a couple of Tudors that I wear the most. Not going to break the bank but they look nice. Like someone else said I wear my Garmin the most.
Omega is the same category as Rolex if not better and definitely above Cartier, don't let anyone tell you otherwise
