Do you ever find yourself involved in a case where it’s a highly nuanced practice area and you have little to no experience handling that type of case? And no one at your firm does either, nor do those other attorneys want to get involved? Do you ever reach out to someone like a cold call who specializes in that type of law for insight? Would this be inappropriate?

If neither I nor anyone at my firm had any experience in a highly specialized field I would definitely either bring on another outside attorney to collaborate with or simply refer the client out. This would be a conversation with your client about their willingness to pay attorney's fees from two firms.

this happens to me all the time. My firm takes cases that no one has expertise or is qualified to handle, I struggle through teaching myself different areas of law. Older partners say that this is exciting and you never know what you are going to do in a day - I hate it because I feel like I’m not good at anything - I don’t think it’s inappropriate to call someone but it might end up that they take the work from you

Hi new here. Idk what my value is and if I’m getting paid an amount that reflects my hard work. I am a paralegal for a small law firm (family and immigration) w only 1 attorney. I have about 20 files or more in my rotation at a time. I work on various types of cases at once. Some are simple, others are extensive. I feel like it’s very unstructured and one of the managers micromanages. It’s like every man for himself. Take home pay is $50k. I am working on my bachelors deg. Do I get paid enough?
