I dislike how car centric LA is. I get it because of the freeway system but I prefer neighborhoods where no cars can get through and it’s safe and walkable.
By safe I meant not getting side swiped by a car because people don’t seem to care about pedestrians.
OC is better than LA
No way! Better for everything. It is great for raising a family yes. But also has a great nightlife for young couples and singles. Not to mention better beaches and better outdoor activities in general. Best of all worlds. You get the fun stuff that LA already has plus added benefits.
We live in Mar Vista and is fabulous. Close enough to ride bike to beach but away from the rif raf in Venice. Spend a lot of time at the beach and go to farmers markets on weekends. I just wish it was as easy to make and keep friends as it was on the East Coast. It is so expensive here and work is not what it was.
Second it’s hard to make and keep friends. I’d say 50% of the friends I made have moved to an area that makes it harder to see them and they only moved because LA is expensive.
Not perfect but don’t want to live anywhere else.
In-N-Out fries are trash, but the burgers are good
Agree on the fries. Tip: When ordering ask for “fries well done” they come out crispy
I like Downtown 🫣
I do think it took a beating from the pandemic, and the zombie wasteland parts are sad, and I’m sad that the Varnish inside of Cole’s is closing, but I still kinda love it?
la is the shittiest county out of all of socal unless you can afford to live in hollywood/bev hills or la beach areas like palos verdes,
Pasadena, Highland Park, Boyle heights, Studio City, and much of the Valley, Eagle Rock, and anything Downtown and west are amazing areas to live in.
You pay a lot of money to stay in a city that is rapidly losing its salute and is very very superficial.
What is ‘salute’?
I think the superficiality tag is pretty outdated. The influx of ‘industry’ people has slowed so much as you don’t need to be in Hollywood to be a star anymore. I grew up here and in my 20’s you stayed away from a lot of areas (Sunset strip, Santa Monica) because you couldn’t go to a bar without people trying to ‘get noticed’.
I feel like most people are relatable now. Either long-term transplants that are settled here for years or moved here for tech and pharmaceutical roles as those have grown. Overall I keep meeting more real and established people…could just be that I’m in my mid-40’s and only meet family people but even the younger people I meet seem more grounded.
