What has been more beneficial to your career and why: specializing in a service offering or an industry?

Service offering. partner KPMG. There are certain service lines where industry specialization is absolutely essential. However most of the work we do is industry agnostic. Build your brand on service offering.

like

Advisory. Build a service offering brand and then align with an industry. That will help you be the service offering lead in ann industry.

What happened to my post?
Disagree with P1.
Also a KPMG Partner.
Especially at KPMG
Especially if you’re in FS, LS or TMT.

I was going to add certain industries like FS but was too lazy. Dont agree with you on LS and TMT. There are few aspects which are specialized but mostly general. Service offering is more important than industry specialization in general.

Most large consultancies have structured their P&Ls around sectors and not service lines. Over the years there’s been a shift to industry specific needs from clients vs generalist process.

Agree with you from go to market perspective but need to have strong service offering brand. Moat work that Big 4s do is industry agnostic except for certain industries. The strategy practices in Big 4 are not doing core strategy work but are more deal execution (integration/ separation execution which is mainly PMO).

Hmmm both? A function within a sector and be kicking butt there

I’ve put myself up for L4 promo this cycle. Assuming I get it, what would be the best next steps to optimize for long-term growth/TC?

My understanding is that L5->L6 is extremely painful at
Google. It may be easier to leave for a handful of years and gain managerial experience before returning.

L4->L5 is less challenging; however, I’m under the impression I can do this quicker at another company (if I leave after being freshly promo’d) AND get higher TC.

Which is better career path among these two ?
1. Java And it's advanced technologies (Backend)
2. Java and Angular (Full stack)

Feeling under-qualified for non-FAANG tech product counsel role. Final interview upcoming. I'm a BigLaw junior and pivoted to data privacy/cybersecurity a year ago.

Is this just normal impostor syndrome? Does anyone feel truly *prepared* to go in-house? I have little to no experience advising on product and do mostly incident response, but this seems like a unicorn-level opportunity I can't pass up (great comp, role, and willing to hire me, a junior).

Any insight is deeply appreciated.

I have been searching for job from quite a long time and all I have seeing HR/Panels asking for
1. Number of implementation projects done.
2. Work experience on S4 Hana.

And if I don't have atleast any one of these, I will not be considered.

Is it really that important ?

Being joined as a fresher - Is it really something that I can decide whether to be in support or implementation project ?

Is upgrading of ECC to S4 Hana in my hands ? And the difference is really that vast ?

I have over 12 years in B2B sales/sales management experience along with a graduate degree. I am wanting to shift gears and I am at a point where I can invest time in myself to learn through practical experience. The new industry I am wanting to pursue is real estate investment. I have read all the books but want some hands on experience on the property management side. How could I best leverage my skills for a role in this, and what should my expectations be for negotiation in compensation?

For the Tech folks out there, what are the exit opportunities like after big 4? Know anyone who has managed to get into MSFT or any of the Silicon Valley giants ?
