Do you start charging OT after 8 hours or 10 hours? Does it seem like there’s a standard? (I’m in NY but interested to know about any place)

8 hrs always. Based in SF. Sometimes there’s pushback but I just stand my ground and they always go with it

like

10-hour days in LA. 1.5x after 10 hours and 2x after 12 hours. Wish it were 8-hour days. But we’d still go over anyways.

10 hours in nyc. 8 wouldn’t fly I’d assume. Some places used to try to argue (cough, Vice, cough) but they are no longer clients

Ok dumb question alert. What does it take to “conform” the work of a colorist. I know it’s normally in Flame, but if it’s conform only - can it be done in Premiere or After Effects?

I work at a post-house and made a spec spot using a bunch of footage that was provided to us by a client (direct to brand relationship, not via an agency). Clients haven’t seen....

Anyone still using avid on commercials? In NY it seems to be 100% premiere now

Hey everyone - any freelance editors or editors/director/makers who live in (or work in) the Atlanta market?

Is Mandy.com still any good? Haven’t used them since they put up a paywall. Trying to decide if it’s worth the price.

Website question: is it bad to have a few spots that are over five years old? I keep them down at the bottom and the majority are much newer so they sort of serve as a ‘best of’ my older work.

What’s everyone working on these days? Anything fun?

Roll call. How much experience? Do you staff in a boutique? An agency? Freelance? If freelance, do you usually work in agency studios, prodcos...? Do you bring on a post producer to help on big jobs?

Does anyone include a bit on invoices like "Accounts not paid within terms are subject to a .75% monthly (9% annual) finance charge" or something like that?

Tangentially, has anyone had an invoice with 30-day terms kicked back for revisions because the client's terms are longer, or do they just ignore what you've stipulated?

Are post-houses ramping back to in-person? I’m freelance and so far have had a couple in-person sessions but everything else has still been remote. I’m in NYC.

I’m 30yo w/ 6yrs copywriting experience. I realized I find my joy in edit, and it’s what i want to do. I’m self taught, no reel. Am i crazy? What do i do to get in the biz? What should i expect?
