the creative industry sucks rn even for local creatives
Visual Storyteller
yep
Absolutely specially writers. It’s not even visas. Green card holder friends are having a hard time
When I moved here for instance I moved here because I wanted to have opportunities to do work on TV with American production, to maybe to do a super bowl spot…
However those briefs were reserved to anglophone teams. And my cw and I had to work extra hard to convince our ideas were better than the other teams even tho we speak english really well, my cw at the time was educated on a billingual school. We just had accents. And we were both heavily awarded.
They only wanted us to work on activations and other hacks that were “easier” to pull awards from.
I shifted to a design role because at one point I got tired of that. But I miss going on shoots a lot.
It’s always been harder for foreign creatives unless they had accents from predominantly white places like Europe and Australia.
You might be slightly lucky if the person interviewing you have themselves worked in foreign country.
The best creatives in NY are foreign creatives.
What makes you think it’s hard for foreign creatives right now?
I don’t think it matters where you’re from.
Top creatives (foreign or local) have it easy.
Good creatives (who used to have it easy) have it harder than usual.
Mediocre creatives have it very hard.
