Do you think job hunting in tech is ever likely to return to the 2021-2022 "hyper-growth" boom era? It is undergoing a structural transformation toward specialized, AI-focused roles but we continues to see high-volume layoffs, particularly for junior roles, demand for skilled, experienced talent in AI, machine learning, and cybersecurity remains high.

I feel like that vibe is close on the horizon, but it will look different this time

I don't think anyone knows or can predict at this point, but this recent reporting I've seen from several outlets raises an interesting "what if?" - that being what if the current costs of AI does not, in fact, cost less than using human resources. It just all shows that as rapidly as things are changing, no one - including the companies developing it and selling it - really know or can predict the actual outcomes at this point

No

With automation in the forefront I seriously doubt it. Several big tech CEOs have said that software engineering roles will be obsolete soon. Roles will change, undoubtedly, but if an AI agent can do the work of 10 engineers there will never be the kind of demand there once was. Unless there's an AI bubble crash the tech gold rush is over.

The shift toward specialized roles is clear, and many companies are looking for candidates with strong technical skills. For interview prep, I found valuable resources and real coding questions on prachub.com.

Potentially but it would definitely look different. And if it doesn’t happen intact, it’ll happen in another industry. We just have to keep our eyes open to opportunities in all fields.

I’m 24 years old making $140k a year with potential to make $170k-180k by June/July 2022. I am somewhat into the work I do (Big4 M&A tax) but I have a strong urge to quit and either start my own business, or look for other higher-paying work, although not sure I have many options. I feel like the longer I stay on this team, the more difficult it will be to move, yet i continue to seek out higher paying alternatives. Should I force myself to be content with my situation?

Career advice?

I'm a relatively junior data engineer (2yoe), the only other engineer (senior) that trained me left about a 6 months ago and I negotiated a nice raise for the extra responsibilities.

My performance reviews have been stellar, but my manager is starting to look to hire a senior to help me deliver projects as we do lack capacity right now.

I feel like I might be missing an opportunity to ask for a promotion and hire a junior instead.

Any opinions/tips?

Hi everyone, a question to the tech industry at large.

Why are people so hesitant to hire disabled candidates?

I am a visually impaired practitioner in South Africa, with 7 years of experience, and as soon as recruiters or business owners hear/read that I'm disabled, the conversation gets awkward and I never hear from them again.
