Do you think the amount of money we get paid is fair for the amount of work that we do? I actually think it's unfair that we as PMs have a higher salary than the ones who produce the work (at least at my job).

I think it’s fair. They’re responsible for what they do whereas we’re accountable.
We shield them from the noise and have to have the difficult conversations, do research and justify our decisions both internally and externally.

This is very true. thank you for sharing.

The ethical dilemmas of being a manager. I have to agree with Ocr - dealing with people and leadership, being the fall woman when things go wrong, is so much more stress than just being a producer.

like

I understand why you might feel that way, although I do think OCR is correct in saying that our role includes the accountability of our entire team. If they make a mistake, it's on our heads regardless of who was responsible. That being said, I do think those that produce the work should be paid more than they are now.

like

Think about the amount of value you produce from your product line to your employer to put it in perspective. Most PMs make hundreds of Ks in pay and oversee delivery of millions of dollars of value. You’re worth it ❤️

like

I work in insurance- so it slightly different- but I am accountable and responsible for all decisions and outcomes impacting my product lines. From growth, marketing, p&l accountability and pricing. I do everything from decide where I am going to market, to meet with regulators. I make about $165k, and think I am probably under paid given the stress and pressure am under.

But I’d like to think I do a good job developing my people, and helping them maximize their own earning capabilities.

Same here. I feel really guilty whenever I think about it. But my mentor reminded me of the amount of effort I also put in. She's not wrong. But still...😬

Going off on the previous commentors, I agree that they may do more hands-on work but we're the ones responsible for the entire team's performance. We handle the more stressful issues like if they commit mistakes. We take the short end of the stick.

Oh yeah, totally unfair. There are engineers out there who could easily do my job, but I could never do theirs. That said, I think a lot of engineers in management do make more than PMs, and a super talented technical person will generally have more job security and job options

I want to ask for a 20%raise, knowing that the company is planning the year budget around now should I give my manager a heads up as to what I’m expecting before my salary review? I got a 0.6% raise at the start of 2020 and a 4% in April this year. The raise this year came with the title of “Lead” and more work responsibilities, talking with a co-worker we now make about the same amount. I started working here right out of college (10 years).

The standout is the mejadara. It’s spiced rice and lentils with fried onions and is popular throughout the Middle East. We used the recipe from Yotam Ottolenghi and Sami Tamimi’s cookbook, Jerusalem.
