screw bonuses. In any offer negotiation ive been part of i always say "cool" but variable comp is always variable comp. I will always ask for guaranteed base salary. Bonuses are always outside of your control.
My firm claims bonuses are ‘performance-based,’ but somehow, no one ever fully understands how the numbers are determined. I’ve seen people with similar utilization and feedback get wildly different payouts.
Somebody made a big formula in a spreadsheet driven by a spaghetti of macros a long time ago that gives the base bonus calculation, then modifiers are added after the fact based on a whole bunch of other criteria that changes from fiscal to fiscal. Without knowing this formula you will never be able to reverse it.
