Thought this was interesting. Across 160 teams of researchers, just about all failed to make good life outcome predictions on things like GPA, evictions, layoffs, and others. Data followed 4.5k families across 15 years, with 13k features (varied over time). Haven't looked at it directly yet, but will be turning the docs and data inside out... In the meantime, authors claim this as showing the limits of ML. Oh, and it's published in PNAS, so you know there's some big publication energy there.

Everybody wants to play with a chatbot
We're at the peak of the hype curve. It'll probably move to disillusion soon as companies start to realise it's not a magic bullet to all their problems.
Are there legitimate use-cases for AI? Of course.
Is every use-case a candidate for AI? Probably not.
But if you don't talk about at least evaluating it, you're at a competitive disadvantage.
well said. it's just frustrating to watch hype curve after hype curve distract from other solutions we already have but aren't staying focused on bc people want to believe in the silver bullet aka shortcut
