Well I started out pre-med in college, then changed to nursing and got pregnant with my first child and had to give up my spot in nursing school and kept having to take courses over to get back into the nursing program bc they expired every 5 year. So I decided to get my medical assisting degree so that I would have a degree before my daughter turned 5. My oldest graduated college with a BSA in English, so I decided to reapply for nursing school and got in and now I'm trying to have my RN the same year that my 2nd child graduates in 2027. I love my current job and they have been very accommodating to me going back to school. I just wanted to finish my dream and make more money to put my other 3 kids through college.
Yes. I went to school for a completely different career. But when I graduated, I couldn’t find a job so I took an entry level role in healthcare thinking it would just be temporary. But eight years later here I am.
I think this happens to most people. A lot of people go to college when they are 18 and think they know what they want to do until they're faced with the reality of the job itself, not the Hollywood version of the job. I thought I wanted to be a doctor but life had other plans and here I am. It's interesting how life works out sometimes.
When I graduated school I followed into the footsteps of the rest of my family and went into business management. 1 year in I almost switched to automotive mechanics but the time and market wouldn’t allow it. 2 years into executive assistant the market was flooded with business/office managers plus I just felt like it wasn’t for me. I wanted something more humane or technical. I worked in a factory for a couple of years while figuring out what I wanted to do. Then one of my grandparents fell ill and my mother and I nursed them until they passed and I felt I found my calling. Became a nurse in my late 20’s and worked my way up to OR nurse in a private clinic. I still believe healing is my true calling! The only thing I regret is not getting licensed as soon as I immigrated to the US, regardless of family leave. I could’ve found something part time or overnight or gone into legal nursing

Yeah originally I wanted to go into another type of healthcare like veterinary however so colleague of mine went into pharmacy and I thought that would be best and easiest so here I am now

Yes. I always wanted to go into pediatrics, was in entry level courses in college. And then I started work as a CNA to get a feel for the healthcare field and have just kinda stayed here. COVID did have a big hand in pausing my education, but I just never went back.
