While I genuinely like lawyers generally, by training and instinct, we are also more capable than most of being very effective at extremely bad behavior.
After almost a decade, the contention/pettiness plus al the death/catastrophic injury is starting to wear on me too.
Agreed. The snide remarks from colleagues who specialised in other areas that see you as an "ambulance chaser" begin to get to you as well. Not to mention the often ungrateful clients who will show you the worst humanity has to offer.
No doubt it’s draining but, at least personally, all the bs is worth it when you make a difference in someone’s life. More so on the plaintiffs side but could apply on defense in certain circumstances. Tifwiw
I just went from a plaintiff’s PI firm that had poor management, a heartless, greedy partner that showed no compassion for anyone (employees included) unless it was faked to get the client to sign the retainer and I’m now at a smaller PI defense firm with a great partner and better reputation. I genuinely agree it’s firm-specific sometimes.
It has gotten better. We just hired a few people that actually want to work. Instead of playing pass the buck chuck and giving endless continuances. The culture has changed in the firm. But outside, not much can be said of the PI field. A lot of jealous, contentious, backstabbing people.
