I’ve done PI work my entire career for over 10 years. I’ve worked in state and federal courts and I’ve traveled around the country doing MDL work and bellwether trials. I’ve had a lot of success making the idiots I’ve worked for wealthy, but I’m still waiting for a moment where I enjoy what I’m doing. I feel stuck working in dysfunctional plaintiff firms/cultures. I hate this profession/career more and more each year. Has anybody been successful breaking off on their own in recent years? Advice?

I managed to be hired by a really good company so naturally the impostor syndrome in me is now in full gear. Obviously, I must know things to have been hired, but I feel like there's so much I still don't know about product design. I got here through short courses and some books and articles and faking it till I made it. I am thinking to take a proper PD course now that I can afford it, if not to learn something new, then to affirm what I already know.

I have a serious question regarding this because time is running out. I quit my job last year on Nov 5. I had about two weeks of PTO accrued and I wasn’t paid out my PTO. A couple of weeks ago I filed a default package, asking for 60k. Mind you, to get to this point, complaint was never answered, statement of damages was served, heard nothing, request for entry of default filed and served, heard nothing. But now, out of the blue, my firm gets a call from defendant’s attorney, asking us to stip to put aside default. Thoughts on how to proceed.... do I agree to stip? Or do I tell them to shove it just like they did to my clients complaint?

I accepted a base salary of $60k as a first year associate and to expect an end of year bonus based on the settlement of my partner’s cases that I work on substantially. The bonus was only $2500 and I got a base pay raise that still doesn’t bring me into the lower 25% of the market rate. Feeling really undervalued and not sure if this is normal in “plaintiffs world”

My mother was in a collision. Other driver admitted fault. Her vehicle needed and entirely new frame. She lost 9 days of work. She is treating with chiro on lean. She has not spoken to the other drivers insurance at all. Chiro said they will tell me when she is “done” treating. At what point should I reach out to the other insurance’s adjuster? And what should I say other than she is still treating?

Tip to Plaintiffs bar, the tough guy act is not as effective a tactic as you think it is. Bad behavior hurts your clients, gives overwhelmed ID lawyers and adjusters the excuse they need to triage your case and delay reporting for settlement authority.

Medical bills exceed the policy. We found out at-fault party has equity in his home. Do we do a policy limits demand wherein we ask for a contribution as a requisite to our acceptance of the policy limits or a regular demand and wait for the insurance company to extend the policy and thereafter ask for a contribution?

Hello! I am a 5th year associate in a major TX metro. My base is $150,000 and after this year’s bonus expect to earn $220,000. In 2022, I generated $2.1M in net fee for the firm. Is this on par with what other firm’s are paying? Is it more? Is it less? Is it just right?

When an injury happens at a franchise, do you always include the franchisor in addition to the LLC that owns the location when sending a demand letter? If it’s a very large corporation (say a hotel chain), how do you choose which corporate entity to name?

Advice on talking yourself up in interviews to place yourself above your typical year’s pay/skill? I’m a 2nd yr that is way more qualified than just doc review/discovery/shadowing more senior lawyers but I don’t want a firm to use that as justification to kill/dump me with work. I want the work life balance I never got at my current job but don’t want to stunt my progress as a lawyer by signing on for entry level skilled work to get that balance. Should a company go out of business if it hurts consumers? 3M is facing lawsuits for their defective ear plugs, surgical blankets, firefighter foam, PFAs, etc. Someone just got $77.5 million on 1 earplug case and there are about 270,000 military personnel with tinnitus and hearing loss. At least 20,000 people who have had multiple surgeries from their blankets and some who have had limbs amputated, who knows how many have had cancer, etc from chemicals made by 3M. 3M market cap is 87 billion
