fishbowl is definitely the right place for this dialogue
D2 if you can’t see how a potentially spiraling conflict could impact every single industry and therefore be worth monitoring then you probably aren’t delivering much value to any shareholders
Well, most Americans care a lot more about their life , supporting their kids and perhaps making sure they can pay the rent next month. Once all that is solved, then they will have luxury to care about foreign wars. Even then, there have been several demonstrations and rallies against many world events. A lot of people live in the bubble and assume that all Americans are living in paradise.
So I’m not quite sure where you get this idea? Who are you comparing “the west” with? You think Chinese, Indians, Koreans , Japanese are more emphatic towards global issues ? How ? You saw a lot of marches in China about Minneapolis ? Or a lot of Japanese were so upset about unrest in Mexico ?
Pro
@M1 nobody, including OP, wants to talk about Iran's murder and suppression of its own people. Its much easier to blame "The West"
I feel the complete opposite & I’m just being honest… I feel Americans & western culture have become too consumed by the world issues we face, politics & that sorts - some people’s very day to day life is manifested through these things, families split, no contact.. all of it.
You have to detox from social media at least 3 times a week to get away from the newly found “experts” of whatever topic is trending that week. Unless you’re a sociopath or psychopath I think you want a better future, better world, but reality is.. majority of us don’t have that control or power , so instead of letting the noise affect them or getting down about what they can’t control - they’d just rather live & enjoy what they can control, doesn’t mean they don’t have empathy but prefer to focus their life on other things.
The problem is desensitization. Social media and constant cortisol spikes from erratic political leaders (the whole lot), intense work expectations, and little social benefits have made people into dissociated beings who don’t have the capacity to care bc they are barely getting by themselves, despite what they may try to make you believe on social media platforms.
Good point
I feel like this is more of a European issue than an American one.
Americans have very strong opinions and drive to actioning them vs anywhere else in the world

Multiple American citizens were killed protesting against the Trump regime’s actions towards foreign-born people in Minneapolis like a month ago. People are paying more attention than you think and there will be consequences in the November elections for the Republicans.

Minneapolis isn’t on the border (at least not the one you are worried about). Maybe we should hire real LEOs to go to that border rather than give a bunch of high school dropout masks and weapons and have them try to hit a quota by raiding small businesses and kidnapping children?
Boils down to this... War has become like a video game.. People push buttons, things go boom. This isnt Vietnam with troops on the ground, a draft, and things playing out in real time. We dont get to see the consequences (row of bodies).. Contrast this with Vietnam, and even the 'War on terror" in Iraq. There was a reason the bodiea coming home wasnt being shown...
The second bit is the US can do no wrong, and we are the world moral authority
The third bit is we dont feel the effect of a strangled supply chain like other countries do. For third worls countries, the shit is real
So we shrug and go about our ways like the world iant on fire
Thats the why.....
But there are still those with a conscience, who agonize about those in the path of destruction and loss of life and did nothing to deserve this..
the other thing i forgot to add.. It feels like Rome all over again. Country crumbling while we on wars of conquest...and we have the circus / coloseums to keep us distracted - football, basketball etc - to keep is all entertained while things are going to shit... and this isnt even a republican or democrat thing
