Does it make sense if i want to apply for big4 for more exposure to other fields? I started a new accounting job last year at a mid size firm. Mostly working on individual tax, i tried to pivot to other teams within the company. But the managers kept pulling me back. The work that I currently have doesn’t seems challenging enough, and I’m extremely afraid that I’m stuck doing individual stuff. I really want to explore my options and field, so it’s easier for me to find out which field I like.

I recently had a specialist partner send me a fairly nasty email after I (a transactional first year) was told to ask them to review something ASAP that had clearly been on my partner’s radar for over a week. Why am I taking the (honestly justified) blame for this? Surely it should be obvious that I’m just the messenger here.

Are private companies easier to work at than public companies in accounting? We have such an accelerated close deadline at the publicly traded company I’m at now, I really hate the inflexible tight deadlines and analysis seems to drag on forever after that. We also close AP/AR very early in the month yet that doesn’t stop payments/receipts from happening so we’re constantly adjusting our accruals until the end of month. Do private companies start their close after the month actually ends?
