Does moving roles laterally keep you satisfied professionally even if you aren’t getting promoted every couple of years?

My friend works for Unilever and told me they are constantly moving people into new roles and they have low attrition. They’re constantly up skilling their workforce in lieu of constant promotion’s.

Do new opportunities and chance to gain new skills outweigh promotions into higher level roles?

I don't care which direction I move so long as the paycheck is going north. Titles do nothing for me. Money does.

Keeps people engaged, assuming they are moving into positions they want to be in. Promotions have a cap at some point. Fewer open roles the higher you go, so that makes sense for more lateral moves.

Lateral moves can absolutely sustain engagement if they come with real scope, new skills, and visibility. In some orgs, that breadth builds stronger long term value than quick title jumps. The risk is when moves feel like recycling, not progression.
I usually look for two things, are skills compounding, and is it translating into future mobility or pay growth?

When I moved in-house a year ago as a BigLaw mid-level, I took a 45% pay cut, far more than I was comfortable with (although I was fine with a 20-30% cut). I took the job because it was a great role and I was focused on making the jump in house and developing the skills I wanted, which required me moving away from my firm practice area. Now that my year-end review is coming up, how do I ask my company for a significant pay raise (not just a 2-5% inflation-matching raise)?

Joined Ericsson a year ago. Learned new things but not enough. Thinking of leaving it and join some other org. What do you think? I wanted some on-site opportunities but so far nothing.
I know the raise will be in between 5-10%. But the part I missed the most is learning. I can use their portal but that is all theory and can’t do much if they don’t provide the time for it .

I am a ft interior designer, full time mom that also does part time photography on the side. I currently make 90K as a designer and bring in around 20K as a photographer/yr. My design job allows for me to work 100% remotely which helps with daycare pick up and drop off. Need some feedback! So I was forced to move jobs about 6 months ago due to reorg and the new leader opting to bring their existing EA with them, without even meeting me. If stayed at the company but accepted an offer for a job outside of the department I was in. Keep getting approached by rival firms for ~50% salary increases in London. Raised it with my company and got a 5% raise. Don’t want to sound ungrateful but doesn’t scratch the surface of the underpayment of where I am, it’s well below market rates. Manager hinted at getting an offer which they could counter could help but, I can’t see them matching 45-55% I could get elsewhere.
