I would be lying if I didn't just say I go hard on the caffeine on days when I just can't be bothered. I drink a Celsius when I'm dragging and need to make it to the finish line. My job is really physically active, so some days I just need that boost.
I try with the caffeine but honestly some days it makes me feel worse.
I used to have the same around 3 pm, but now that I started exercising before work, my energy level stays the same. Have you look into your diet or exercise routine? This can change your energy levels. You could also start blocking that hour for low-energy tasks or quick walks.
I exercise pretty often but if I go to the gym it’s always after work, putting it before might not be a bad idea.
I noticed someone already chimed in about exercise, but what also makes a huge difference is your sleep patterns and diet. If I don't sleep at least 8 hours a night, I'm dragging by noon. And if I eat a big carb-y lunch, forget it. Lock in those two things and I promise you'll notice a big difference.
Yeah lunch might need to change, I usually have some kind of pasta followed by a walk and I think it just sets me up to be sleepy!
I tend to get tired in the mid afternoon and I've learned over time to avoid anything sugary at lunch. I think I was getting a sugar high and then coming down and that was messing with me. If I start to feel tired I can generally get up and walk around a little, and that tends to get my head back in the game.
Oh yeah I barely touch sugary foods at work, I try to have fruit on hand a lot.
Are you a coffee drinker? If so, try waiting to have your first cup until 60-90 minutes after waking up. "Caffeine works by blocking adenosine receptors in the brain. Adenosine is a neurotransmitter that promotes sleepiness, and its levels build up throughout the day. By waiting 90 minutes after waking up to consume caffeine, you allow adenosine levels to rise slightly, enhancing caffeine's ability to block these receptors and keep you alert. " So in short, if you drink coffee right away, those sleep hormones will re-emerge in the late afternoon after the caffeine has worn off.
Oh wow I didn’t know that, I’ll give it a try!
