It sounds like you've got things assessed pretty accurately. The idea is to generate new ways to cut costs so upper management can crow about that. All leadership ever focuses on is the story they'll tell to Wall Street analysts when they announce quarterly earnings. Being able to say AI was implemented and x number of jobs were eliminated will be a trend for the next few years, you can count on that.
That only lasts so long before those companies have to start rehiring if customer service declines.
There's also a lot of stress that goes into constantly trying to juggle all the things we're supposed to be doing with AI that they insist are easier. But I also spend a lot of time having to fact check and verify that AI just isn't making stuff up.

The old "sale ads" touted computers would free up space and time for employees to be more productive and creative. Turns out it only increased expectations, created more stress and a backdoor to steal information. The caveat is AI is another layer of sold promises that will point to the small "successes" by misdirecting humans from all the failures.
Math class got harder when calculators were introduced. We don’t seem to be seeing the same thing for AI - students are learning how to ask for information rather than knowing it.
Some colleges have started oral exams to see what the students really know.
