GT did this, in my last year I hadn’t taken a day off in 7 months, the firm closed during the holiday season and I was unable to take the days due to client deadlines and was not able to make those days up (and no one offered. I was rewarded with more work) and I think I took a total of 9 days off in my last year. This policy DOES NOT work. And I made that clear in my exit interview. They’ll boast about what a great policy it is for you, but it’s strictly a cost saving exercise for the firm. Best of luck!
Oh yeah, I totally agree why that. But my schedule was so packed and far out into the future, I had no availability to put in FTO. The process is a little unfair since work loads were unfairly spread out from person to person. I left the firm a few years ago so I can’t speak about the policy today, but that was my own personal experience.
Yeah basically. Also get no vacation paid out since we didn’t accrue any formally anyway.
I got an out of office last week from someone in Europe, they are on summer holiday, and will be back June 29.😭😅🤪
I was reading a study of some silicone valley company that went from a defined PTO policy to "unlimited" and the study showed that the average number of vacation days taken by each employee dropped. So in addition to not paying accrued PTO when people leave the companies are benefitting from more labor hours at the same price.
I really like unlimited because you can really balance it, and you don’t have to worry about the bank. If you’re on track with your charge hours - you shouldn’t feel bad about taking it then! I would not leave my firm that implements it for one that doesn’t have it.
