2020 grad M&A/PE Associate in LCOL area thinking about moving to a ECVC/M&A boutique. I generally like the work I do and the people I work with, but I really don’t like the hours and the constant late nights and weekends. Currently on pace for 2250. Boutique I have been eyeing has billable hour requirement of 1500-1600 and comes with a 20-25% paycut. Is this a stupid idea and should I grind it out until I can move in house? Will this ruin my opportunities down the road?

Do whatever you personally want to do. If you want to stay local, then just look at the prestige/exit ops previous associates at your current firm have gotten compared to associates at the boutique. If your end goal is to move somewhere else in house, name recognition may be more important and the boutique may not have that pull outside of that local area.

like

Are you really working late nights and weekends at a 2250 pace? Surely then there’s a decent amount of down time?

like

If you want to not feel on-call, go in house. Much better there.

No debt if that also helps.

Considering the same

Lots of the top EC/VC firms (WSGR, Goodwin, etc.) are hiring for remote positions. If you’re worried about the comp/prestige hit, why not consider one of those?

Dm me if you want to chat about biglaw ecvc/ tech m&a

Guys i am switching jobs for first time so need your help
Company x offered me 9 LPA
Company y offered 11 LPA

I want to join company x more due to their tech stack, culture etc. It's also an established product based company while y is service based.
How do I initiate negotiations with x? I have plenty of time left in notice, but x also requested to join early (if previous company releases, with buyout+bonus) for which I have discussions next Wednesday.

My company went toxic in the last couple months. Chose me and started interviewing. Had a very successful interview with Amazon but recruiter is working hard trying to place me and said there’s no knowing how long to find a team. Meanwhile I just received a Director offer for a company with a 29% pay bump July 1. If Amazon or any other FAANG/large co gets back to me, is there an acceptable way to not burn bridges with new job and accept or delay start date with FAANG? Or fuck it just hop?

I've become really jaded about consulting. I find all so often you need to tell the client what they want to hear to keep their business and I feel like so much of the what I recommend doesn't actually get implemented. I'm looking to make a career switch so I can both create and execute on my strategies. A product management path seems very promising for this.

Does anyone who switched from consulting to product management have any recommendations of h helpful PM books, courses, or programs?
