Feeling a bit discouraged lately. I can't tell if it's because I'm realizing litigation or being a lawyer is not for me, or if it's just that I have not found the right firm or role for myself. I do well overall. I get great feedback, have worked at Amlaw200 firms, client praise, etc. But I feel hollow and unmotivated. Just a slump? Any thoughts or advice is welcome.

What do you want out of the practice of law? For me it was a job that could support me and challenge my mind. I also liked the opportunity to do public interest work. What is it for you?

A- the mentor is the key. I’m sorry you don’t have any. They make a massive difference in the arc of a youngster’s career.

Please describe the size and makeup of your current firm. I’m trying to figure out if there might be constructive paths for you there or if you need to look elsewhere. And if you want to preserve some privacy feel free to dm me and we can take the chat offline.

I feel the same way and have the same doubts. Not sure how to overcome it. I work at a great firm and focus on an area of law that is both interesting and important. Yet, I am totally drained and unfulfilled. I think it’s the litigation lifestyle, or maybe the law firm lifestyle overall. But I can’t afford to take time off or explore other options at this time.

I am sorry you feel the same, yet am glad I do not feel alone. That's nice you find your work is interesting and important at least. I often wonder what it is like in comparison to practice in house or doing corporate/transactional work.

It really helps to find a practice area you like/are passionate about.

I appreciate that. I have not have the opportunity to practice the area I feel I would most enjoy, unfortunately.

I am in the process of IVF due to my husband's male factor infertility. I am so grateful for the benefits that EY provides and wanted to know if there is any consideration for reevaluating those benefits? We know that IVF is incredibly expensive and for some of us, having children is a top priority. Does anyone know where or how we can petition for enhanced or shared benefits? I have ideas.

Anyone know when Ch. 7 BKs must close by? Is this changed by when there are adversary proceedings (alleged fraudulent transfers made to a bank for CC payments)? Asking for my friend who is unfortunately involved bc of his parents, who are the debtors (he isn’t a defendant or a debtor in this, but the payments were made to a CC in his name—a CC he didnt know was opened in his name).

Its in Texas, and the initial BK filing was made about 23 months ago. TIA!

Mid-level associate at a mid-size regional insurance defense firm practicing coverage litigation. Salary is capped b/c my firm only does I.D./coverage and has no direct-hire comm clients. Second round of interviews with a comm lit boutique where I would be the only associate with 5 partners. Other than partner track, salary/benefits, and switching from coverage to general comm lit, what qualities of the move should I be thinking about as I weigh my options? I've never worked at another firm.
