I am not sure if this is covid fog or pandemic burn out. I picked various hobbies throughout pandemic to keep myself crazy busy. First I was gardener extraordinaire and then I was extreme DIYer.

Any recommended hobbies I should pick up which forces me to challenge myself.

Anywho pictures from my bath Reno which I did myself last Jan.

Anyone else dreading the weekly internal partner “catch-up” calls/web-conferences where people go around the horn to talk about all of their new and glamorous work. I hope my partners really are getting great new substantial work (as it’s great for the whole partnership), but it’s really hard to tell how much is puffery/self-plugging and how much is legit. (We don’t have access to other partners hours/billings.)

Remote work moving forward: where are your firms at?

American attorney here. Recruiter reached out about an opportunity with Osler in New York City. Anyone have insight on the firm in general and/or the NYC office?

Do Canadian firms have any interest in hiring American JDs given the market and that Canadian associates are moving to the US?

Trying to rid myself of ID work and get into commercial lit at big shop. I’m just about a year in, and so I was wondering if it makes sense to go to a smaller/midsized shop first then see where I’m at in 3-5 years if big law is still a goal.

I’m a junior litigation lawyer based in Windsor looking to lateral to corporate big law. I have been doing commercial litigation, tax litigation, and tax planning. I’ve done corporate reorganization, corporate structuring, rollovers so corporate would not be completely new to me. I did a solicitor rotation during articling and was involved with several m&a deals. Has anyone managed to make the jump from litigation in Windsor to Toronto big law corporate? Your advice is greatly appreciated.

How widespread will the great resignation be after bonus season?! I’m thinking it will be wild. I know very few happy people right now and most of Big Law has developed a crap reputation for how they treated people during the pandemic. Just me?

I really wish the big law firms in Canada were as transparent about their pay and bonus scales as what we are seeing in the US. Does any Canadian firm share bonus scales??

Has anyone here moved from the US legal market to the Canadian legal market? Would love to chat if so. Moving to Toronto in 2022. Thank you :)

Corporate at a large Bay Street firm and it’s slower than its ever been right now... anyone else?

Anyone ever make the transition from corporate/commercial to advocacy? Suffering a crisis of conscience and want to start using my skills to help in a different way. My background is entirely in business and tech. Would love any insight. (I’m a 3rd year)

Trying to get an idea of some comparables here for Canada:
Looking for :
- billable hour targets, bonus structures, whether your firm has provided some form of COViD bonus /retention bonus, and lastly, if your firm will be increasing associate salaries in 2022! It would be great if the firm name was mentioned as well.

Quitting my job soon and am thinking about becoming a therapist/counsellor for lawyers and other high stress professions. Taking a poll on whether you would be attracted to the idea of a therapist who worked in biglaw and could speak to burnout, perfectionism and other mental health issues we typically face as lawyers. Thanks :)

How is your firm’s bonus policy structured? Set amounts based on year of call and hours? Discretionary? Who the hell knows? What bonus?
