I have a friend in the same boat. 40 years old. They told us to go to college, make something of ourselves. Now we’ve been through 2-3 financial crashes, bad economy’s, inflation, bad job markets, and now there’s the threat of AI. We should have been plumbers and electricians.
The market crashes have hit a lot of people hard for sure. I’m fortunate to have been able to help protect some of my friends and family from losses during the most recent downturns. Luckily it was right before the government shutdown and furloughs too! It’s only a matter of time before another market crash hits us.
My son never went to college. He works in a gold mine in Colorado drilling and driving enormous trucks. I can’t believe how much he makes.
I have been unemployed for 5 months and am not having much luck getting interviews. I'm working part-time as a receptionist to stretch my savings and seriously considering a career change. All this to say that you are not alone. If you have any industry network, use it, because that's the best chance for finding work.
Networking is key! My firm having a plug & play network of affiliates across the country has been pivotal for me with regard to training, income and expansion! Have you considered going into business for yourself?
What do you guys have experience in?
I’ve been in healthcare the last 2 decades, but I pivoted into the financial services industry so I could work for myself.

The job market is so ROUGH right now. I have been looking for six months and can't seem to find anything. I would suggest looking in the job openings bowl to see if you can find anything on there.
Good luck!
