What kind of mentorship you are looking for
Go to startup events and industry talks and meet people.
I agree with the previous statements, you need to get out there and meet people at local tech functions and meet ups. Depending on the type of mentor you’re looking for, make sure you’re going to the right type of events. If you’re early in your product development journey, go to meet ups that are very technical even if the topic is way over your head, you’ll meet the right type of people that can connect you with appropriate mentors. You can also try going to your local chapter of 1 million cups, if there was one in your city or you can try S.C.O.R.E. But they are often focused on non-technical businesses and you’ll find a lot of retired executives who mean well but have never shipped a 1.0 product.
I find mine attending webinars, actually. There really isn’t a right or wrong answer here, just a matter of keeping trying until you do find a match.
You need to be out in the world and meeting people, trying to do it on social media is fraught with problems. It can work for getting the word out and bringing on some attention, but you need to deal with people so you can assess how credible they are. Going to industry events is a good starting point, or just networking with your professional acquaintances.
Cold outreach with a very specific ask (not just “can you mentor me?”) worked better, especially if I could reference something they published or shared recently.
What do you mean by “without connections in the startup scene”?
